Millions of Americans tuned in to watch the final presidential debate on October 15.

Thank you to everyone who sent a message to moderator Bob Schieffer urging him to pose a question about how the candidates’ health care reform proposals would affect the quality, delivery and cost of health care in America.

Health care reform is an issue that both Senators Obama and McCain have said they are committed to pursuing, and changes to our health care system will affect each and every American on a highly personal basis. Before casting our ballots on November 4, we all deserve a clear explanation of where the candidates stand on important issues, such as an increased role for the government in health care reform. The candidates need to explain to the American people how their policies will affect important issues like access, affordability and quality of health care.

People around the world have experienced first-hand the consequences and outright failure of government-run health care systems to put patients first. Canadians and British citizens repeatedly suffer from long waiting lists, the rationing of care and procedures, the denial of some medicines and a diminishing number of primary care and specialty physicians. We deserve to know whether our candidates would lead America down a similar path.
